COLUMBUS, Ohio – The 17th-ranked USC women's volleyball team (10-2, 1-1 Big Ten) swept Ohio State (3-7, 0-2) in straight sets (25-23, 25-22, 25-15) at Covelli Center on Saturday, Sept. 27.

KEY PLAYERS

Fr. S Reese Messer logged her sixth double-double with 34 assists and 12 digs to go with three blocks. Trojans were the beneficiary of her touches to the tune of .260 hitting (46k, 14e, 123att).
RS So. OH London Wijay had a season-high 18 kills (3e, 40att) and hit .375 with six digs.
Fr. OPP Abigail Mullen tallied 11 kills (3e) on 26 attacks to register .308 hitting and matched her career high with five service aces. She also had a block to total 16.5 points and added nine digs.
Sr. LIB Gala Trubint led all players with 16 digs for her 73rd-career match in double digits. Her total moved her within one dig of reaching 1,300-career digs and puts her just 12 from a spot in the Trojans' top 10 all-time.
RS Jr. OH Adonia Faumuina notched seven kills and had eight digs and a service ace.
Sr. MB Rylie McGinest racked up seven kills (1e) on 14 swings to hit .429 and had one block.
For the Buckeyes, Reese Wuebker and Hannah Jones each totaled eight kills. Olivia Hasbrook and Mia Stahler each put up 11 digs. Mia Tuman dished out 20 assists and had eight digs.

HOW IT HAPPENED

The Trojans recorded more kills (46-34), digs (55-50), and service aces (7-3) than the Buckeyes and hit .260 over Ohio State's .162. Both teams finished with four blocks a side.
Wijay had nine of her kills in the first set while Faumuina added four and Mullen served three of her aces to power the Trojans to a 25-23 win. USC hit .220 with 16 kills but hit into a pair of Ohio State blocks. On the other side, the Buckeyes finished with a .200 hitting percentage (9k, 3e, 30att). The Trojans led by as many as three through the belly of set one, but OSU forced the seventh tie of the frame at 19-all before it took a 23-20 lead. Wijay's kill sparked a 5-0 USC run to close out the opening frame, which included all three of Mullen's aces.
McGinest, Mullen, and Wijay each tallied five kills in the second set and led USC to a 25-22 win. The Trojans hit .264 with 18 kills but Ohio State equaled that output with 18 kills on .280 hitting. The service line proved to be the difference as three USC points came from Buckeye service errors. Ohio State trailed by just one point at 17-16 but never came closer than two points as USC rolled to a 2-0 lead in the match.
USC dominated the third for a 25-15 win to seal the sweep. USC totaled 12 kills (3e) on 29 swings to register .310 hitting as Mullen and Wijay each poured in four kills. Mullen had the double-arch for two more service aces and the Trojans had three blocks to hold the Buckeyes to negative .065 hitting (7k, 9e, 31att). Trubint picked up five of her digs in the third set.

USC returns to Galen Center to host Indiana and Purdue in its first Big Ten home matches. The Trojans take on the Hoosiers Friday (Oct. 3) at 7 p.m. PT and then meet No. 10 Purdue on Saturday (Oct. 4) at 6:30 p.m. The USC-Indiana match will be shown on Big Ten Plus and the USC-Purdue match will be televised nationally on Big Ten Network. MATCH NOTES

USC improved to 6-2 all-time against Ohio State and moved to 2-1 as the road team in the series.
The Trojans collected their fifth 3-0 sweep of the season, the 626th in program history.
The win is the 95th-career win for USC head coach Brad Keller.
