USC Baseball Comes Back For Series Sweep Against Omaha
February 27, 2022 | Baseball
LOS ANGELES – The USC baseball team scored four runs in the bottom of the eighth inning to come back and pick up a 7-4 win over Omaha, sweeping the three-game series against the Mavericks in the process.

The Trojans have now won both of their series to start the year, moving to 5-2 on the season. Omaha falls to 3-5 with the loss.

Trevor Halsema hit a solo-home run in the bottom of the eighth to tie the game, and then Johnny Olmstead scored on a passed ball later in the inning to put USC ahead. D'Andre Smith capped the inning with a two-run triple to give the Trojans their 7-4 margin.

The Mavs scored once in the first on an RBI double and then added two in the third thanks to a passed ball and sacrifice fly. A single scored one more in the sixth for the visitors.

USC got on the board in the third thanks to a two-run home run by Nick Lopez. It was Lopez's second homer in as many games. Tyresse Turner drove in a run in the seventh with an infield single.

After giving up three runs in the first three innings, the Trojan bullpen settled the game down and held Omaha to just one run the rest of the way. Carson Lambert tossed 2.2 scoreless innings and Kyle Wisch threw 2.0 scoreless frames. Matt Keating picked up the save with a scoreless ninth.
