USC will send seven runners to compete at the 5K Titan Invitational on the CS Fullerton campus in Fullerton, Calif. on Friday, Oct. 21 at 5 p.m. This race will be the final regular season meet before the team will compete at the Pac-12 Championships hosted by Arizona State in Tempe, Ariz. on Oct. 29.

Running this week for USC will be redshirt juniors Shelby Buckley and Jessica Lundin, junior Kelly Owen, sophomores Francesca Adamski and Anna Burger and freshmen Austin Lundin and Erin Matranga.

"This race will provide a good chance for some of the girls to end their season on a good note," said USC cross country coach Tom Walsh. "Shelby Buckley is the only person on our team running this week that will also compete next week in Tempe at the Pac-12 Championships. This meet is more competitive than ever with UCLA, CS San Marcos, CS Long Beach and UC Santa Barbara all bringing their top athletes to run on Friday."

The Titan Invitational course generally provides fast times as it is run on concrete and grass, unlike last week's course at Northridge which ran through thick grassy areas and featured many sharp turns. USC finished sixth at the 2010 Titan Invitational, led by Owens who placed 12th among scoring runners with a time of 18:27.7.

"This will give Shelby one more race going into the Pac-12 Championships," said Walsh. "Her training has been excellent and I just want to give her one more race before the conference championship."

Buckley had to redshirt in cross country her first season with USC (2009) after transferring from UCLA and then was injured and could not compete during the 2010 cross country season. She has run two times officially for USC this season, placing 19th at the UC Irvine Invitational in September and then taking 11th at the CS Northridge Invitational last week.

USC has a very young cross country team this season led by a strong freshmen class. Two of those freshmen athletes Matranga and Lundin will be running at Fullerton. Matranga has put together a very solid freshman campaign which includes finishing 18th overall and second among Trojans at the Aztec Invitational and Lundin has shown steady progress throughout the season.

The USC cross country runners who will competed next week at the Pac-12 Championships are Buckley, freshmen Erica Capellino, Shannon Byrne, Erin Robinson and Kira Soderstrom, redshirt freshman Katie DeYoung and sophomore Jaclyn Walles.
