Oct. 16, 2014
The USC women's cross country team will compete at the third annual Highlander Invitational (5K) hosted by UC Riverside at the Ag/Ops course in Riverside, Calif. on Oct. 18 at 8:30 a.m. USC has finished second in each of the first two Highlander Invitationals.
USC is expected to send a team of senior Kira Soderstrom, juniors Katerina Berdousi, Reika Kijima, Natasha Strickland and Jenna Tong and freshmen Kimberly Groff, Emma Kao, Jessica Lesser and Mackensie Peace.
This is the last meet to get ready for the Pac-12 Championships," said USC cross country coach David Freeman. "Katerina (Berdousi) keeps improving and will continue to work on her race strategies. As a team we can start solidifying our race tactics for the conference meet."
Among the teams expected to be competing on Saturday are host UC Riverside, UC Irvine, Cal State Fullerton, Cal State Northridge, Long Beach State, Pepperdine and San Diego State. USC won its Dual Meet with No. 3 in the West Region UCLA last week.
"We gained more confidence from that meet," said Freeman. "After the victory at the Dual Meet, hopefully they will have more confidence in themselves, be more daring and push that envelope a little bit more. The main thing is just trying to fine tune for the Pac-12 Championships to be hosted by California. I'm very excited to start buckling down and get ready for the challenge we will face at the Pac-12s."
The Pac-12 Cross Country Championships will be held on Oct. 31 in Berkeley, Calif.
