Oct. 7, 2014
The USC women's cross country team will face crosstown rival UCLA in the second annual dual meet at Brookside Golf Course in Pasadena, Calif. in a 5K race on Oct. 9 at 5:30 p.m.
"I'm really excited for the Dual Meet we are having on Thursday," said USC cross country coach David Freeman. "I think our women are going to give it all they have and go out there to win against UCLA."
The Trojans are expected to run a team which will feature seniors Erica Capellino and Kira Soderstrom, juniors Katerina Berdousi, Reika Kijima, Natasha Strickland and Jenna Tong, and freshmen Amber Bragdon, Kimberly Groff, Emma Kao, Jessica Lesser and Mackensie Peace.
The Trojans had a solid showing two weeks ago at the Stanford Invitational, placing eighth and beating several of the ranked teams in the West.
"I think from the race at Stanford the team realizes we are going in the right direction and can compete with some of the toughest teams in the country and we can't wait for Thursday to compete against the team from across town," added Freeman. "The Pac-12 has five teams ranked in the top 25 so we know what we have to face at the end of October for the Pac-12s. This Thursday is just another step in moving in the right direction to get ready for the conference meet."
The Bruins are ranked No. 3 in the West Region and 26th nationally and will provide the Trojans with stiff competition and help prepare them for the Pac-12 Championships coming up on Oct. 31 in Berkeley, Calif..
