The USC women's cross country schedule for the 2012 season was announced today (July 17) by head coach Tom Walsh.

The Trojans will compete in five regular season meets, beginning on Sept. 8 at the UC Irvine Invitational, followed by the Aztec Invitational in San Diego, Calif. on Sept. 15, the Stanford Invitational in Palo Alto, Calif. on Sept. 29, the Highlander Invitational in Riverside, Calif. on Oct. 13 and the Titan Invitational in Fullerton, Calif. on Oct. 19.

This season's Pac-12 Championships will be hosted by crosstown rival UCLA on Oct. 27. The 2012 NCAA West Regional will be in Seattle, Wash. on Nov. 9 and the NCAA Championships will be in Louisville, Ky. on Nov. 17.

USC's women's cross country team had a solid 2011 season despite no seniors competing and five of its top seven runners being freshmen. Leading the kiddie corps was then freshman Erica Capellino who teammed with then redshirt junior Shelby Buckley to give the Trojans a strong one-two punch.

USC has added a strong recruiting class featuring Katerina Berdousi from Greece and several talented runners from southern California.

The young team improved throughout the season which pleased coach Walsh, "I am happy with the progress that this team made throughout the season. Most of the girls on the team improved by 30-40 seconds from a year ago, and that is very impressive."

The returning group along with the newcomers gives promise to an even more competitive season.

"We are hoping to build off last season and improve upon it," said Walsh. "We have everybody back and have added a talented freshman class and I look forward to seeing how this team comes together and competes this season."
