Senior Sarah Ellis led all collegians in the 5,000 meter run to lead the Women of Troy cross country team to a third-place showing at the UC Riverside Invitational on Saturday (Sept. 22).
Ellis ran 18:16.2 and finished behind two unattached runners--Kareen Nilsson (17:46.6) and Ursula Kremer (18:09.5)--but the nearest collegiate runner was Cal State Northridge's Angela Talarico (18:24.8).
The Women of Troy took third with 100 points behind UC Irvine (41) and Cal State Northridge (76). Claremont was fourth (162), followed by Cal State Fullerton (203). USC had a total time of 1:36:21.5, with an average time of 19:16.3.
Also for the Women of Troy, freshman Lisa Rotsel was 20th (19:14.5), senior Sinfo Orosco was 28th (19:30.5), freshman Harlye Maya was 32nd (19:36.8), junior Danielle Morrell was 39th (19:43.5), sophomore Jessica Cuevas was 151st (21:37.8) and sophomore Guiselle Torres was 225th (23:43.1).
The Women of Troy are next in action at the Long Beach State invitational in Long Beach on Oct. 6.
