At USC: Shelby Buckley begins her final season of cross country at USC...She transferred to USC from UCLA in the Spring of 2009, and after having to sit out the 2009 season, was injured and could not compete in 2010...She enters her second full season of cross country at USC as one of the team's top runners and a co-captain...2011: Was the Trojans' top finisher in three of the four races in which she competed...Led USC and was 19th overall with a time of 18:17.4 at the 5K UC Irvine Invitational. ..Also led the Trojans and was seventh overall with a 5K season best of 1743.8 at the Titan Invitational...Was USC's top finisher at the inaugural Pac-12 Conference Championships and finished 78th with a time of 22:01. 2010: Was injured and did not compete for the cross country team...Returned to health at the very end of the track season and competed in a few races...2009: She ran unattached in three races and showed why USC is anxious to have her running cross country...In her first race on Sept. 12 at the UC Irvine Invitational, Buckley won the meet's first competition with a time of 17:52.70...She then placed seventh with a time of 18:19 at the Vanguard Invitational on Oct. 10, a meet won by USC even though her time did not count for the Trojans...In her final race of the season, she placed third with a time of 17:59 at the Titan Invitational on Oct. 24.
COLLEGE: 2008: Began her collegiate career at UCLA...Ran in four races for the Bruins, finishing among their top four runners in each meet...Led UCLA at the Pac-10 Championships with a PR of 21:34.26 to finish 48th..Placed 85th at the West Regional as the Bruins' third runner with a time of 21:55.83.
HIGH SCHOOL: Buckley graduated in 2008 from Corona Del Mar High School in Newport Beach, Calif. where she was a four-year letterman in track and cross country... Also earned a varsity letter in soccer... She won the 2004 CIF State cross country individual title...Is the only female athlete in Orange County history to place in the top five at the state cross country meet for four consecutive seasons...2004 All-State honoree in cross country and OC Register Athlete of the Year... Four-time All-CIF and all-league honoree in cross country... Earned All-America and All-State honors in track in 2007... Member of the national champion 4x1600 relay and DMR...Foot Locker National cross country finalist in 2006 and CA State champion in 2004... Served as a team captain ...2007 CIF Div. III champion in the 800m and 1600m...2007 CIF Masters champion in the 1600m...Was a member of the winning 4x1-mile relay team at the Nike Outdoor Nationals...Placed third at the 2007 CA State Meet in the 1600m...Broke the CIF Div. III 800m record with a PR of 2:09.6...Her best 1600m time was 4:45.
PERSONAL: Shelby was born on April 16, 1990 in Laguna Hills, Calif...Her parents are Tim and Jennifer and she has three siblings: Keith, Megan and Lindsay...Her father swam collegiately at Chico State...Shelby is a Sociology major and Sports Media Studies minor at USC....Likes to travel...In her spare time likes to go to the beach...Favorite food is bean and cheese burritos...Says Erica Capellino is her sports hero because she's fast and eats burritos with her...Would like to go into a sports-related profession after college...Is a member of the Trojan Athletic Senate.
