    USC Women's Cross Country Opens Season Saturday At UC Irvine

    Young Trojan squad will be in full force for opener

    At USC: Lauren Grego begins her second season of competing for the USC cross country team. She redshirted her first season at USC...2013: In her first collegiate race of any kind, Grego was USC's second finisher and fifth overall at the Mark Covert Classic on Aug. 31 with a PR of 18:31.9. Her second race was Sept. 21 at the Aztec Invitational and she was USC's third finisher and 18th overall with a time of 19:13. Grego missed the rest of the season with a stress fracture...2012: Redshirted her first season at USC due to hip surgery.

    HIGH SCHOOL: Grego is a 2012 graduate of Edison HS in Huntington Beach, Calif. where she earned 12 varsity letters and was the MVP in cross country and track..She was named the school's Hall of Fame Athlete of the Year...As a senior had a 3-mile cross country best of 17:31 to place sixth in the varsity rated race at the Woodbridge Cross Country Classic...Set a PR in the 800m race to finish eighth at the CIF Division 1 Prelims with a time of 2:16.21 and also placed seventh in the 1600m race with a time of 5:04.71...Had a PR of 5:00.42 to place seventh at the Orange Country Championships.

    PERSONAL: Lauren was born on June 25, 1994 in Irvine, Calif...Her parents are Victoria and Robert and she has three brothers, Nathan, Ragan and Austin...Her hobbies include surfing, drinking coffee and being outdoors...Lists her favorite musical artists as Jack Johnson and Bob Marley, favorite television show as Gossip Girl, favorite actress as Reese Witherspoon and favorite movie as Zoolander...Her sports hero is Steve Prefontaine because he had confidence and never stopped giving his all...Likes Mexican food...Would like to travel to Europe...Her major is Human Biology with a minor in Spanish...After USC would like to go to Physician Assistant School, become a physician assistant and volunteer abroad....Has been on mission trips to Panama and Mexico and has done medical outreach in Guatemala...Has also worked with USC Navigators and the organization Volunteers Around the World.
