    USC Takes Second at Highlander Invitational 4K Race

    Young Trojans post seven of the top 23 times

    At USC: Erin Matranga begins her second year as a cross country runner at USC... 2011: One of two Trojans to compete in all four regular season meets...Had her season-best 5K time of 19:19.2 in the season opener at the UC Irvine Invitational on Sept. 10...In her first 6K race she posted a time of 23:47.31 at the Trojans placed second at the CS Northridge Invitational on Oct. 15...Ran track in the spring and posted the second-fastest 5000m time of the season by a Trojan of 18:13.96 at the Ben Brown Invitational on March 10...Also ran the 10th-fastest USC women's 3000m steeplechase race all-time with a time of 11:28.47 at the Trojan Invitational on March 24.

    HIGH SCHOOL: Matranga is a 2011 graduate of St. Francis High in Sacramento, Calif....She ran both cross country and track while at St. Francis...As a senior she placed 32nd at the California State Division I XC Championships with a time of 18:30...Had a best three-mile time of 18:15 at The Other Meet on Oct. 9...In track for St. Francis had best times of 2:19.93 in the 800m, 4:57.39 in the 1500m and 11:26.77 in the 3200m.

    PERSONAL: Erin was born on Feb. 5, 1993 in Sacramento, Calif....Her parents are Stan and Sharon Matranga and she has one older brother, Eric, who is also a Trojan...Among her favorite entertainers are Step Brother's, Lil Wayne, Taylor Swift, Rebelution, Kenny Chesney and Eminem...Her hobbies include wake boarding, snow boarding and taking long walks by the beach...Lists her sports hero as teammate Kira Soderstrom...Following USC plans to be successful in something that she loves doing.
