At USC: Erica Capellino begins her final season of running cross country for USC...She has been the Trojans' top runner in 10 of her 14 career races. 2013: Was USC's top runner once again, but had her season end after the Pac-12 Championships due to a stress fracture which also kept her out of the track season. Won the individual title by placing first at the USC-UCLA Dual Meet on Oct. 11 with a 6K time of 21:47.36 on the Rose Bowl course. Set a 5K PR with a time of 17:40.8 while finishing seventh at the Highlander Invitational on Oct. 19. Had her best Pac-12 Championships finish as she led the Trojans by placing 46th with a time of 23.19 on Nov. 2 in Colorado. 2012: Was USC's top finisher in all four regular season meets in which she competed. Set a then-PR of 17:43.9 in leading USC to a second place finish at the season-opening UC Irvine Invitational...it was the fastest time by a Trojan on the Irvine course in the past seven seasons. Led USC to its first team title since 2009 and became's USC's first individual winner since 2010 when she won the Aztec Invitational on Sept. 15 with a time of 18:11.5, 16 seconds faster than she ran on the Balboa Course in finishing second as a freshman and 10 seconds better than the 2011 winner....Also became the first Trojan since Sarah Cocco in 2007 to win the Aztec Invitational and her time was the fastest individual time since Cocco won with a time of 17:43 that same season. Was USC's top finisher and placed 26th with a 6K PR of 21.43 at the 6K Stanford Invitational on Sept. 29. Paced the Trojans and was fourth overall with a time of 13:52.2 at the 4K Highlander Invitational on Oct. 13. Was USC's second finisher and 55th overall with a time of 22:00 at the Pac-12 Championships held at Robinson's Ranch Golf Course in Los Angeles on Oct. 27. 2011: She had an outstanding first season at USC, developing into one of the top cross country runners and one of the best distance runners in track for the Trojans. In her first cross country race as a Trojan she placed second with a time of 18:27.8 at the Aztec Invitational in San Diego on Sept. 17...Led the Trojans and finished fourth overall with a time of 22:05.48 at the CSUN Invitational on Oct. 15...Was USC's second finisher an 92nd overall with a time of 22.41 at the Pac-12 Championships on Oct. 29...Had a strong Spring running track for USC with a best 800m time of 2:12.58 and USC's best 1500m time and a PR of 4:27.92 at the Trojan Invitational on March 24...Placed second in the 1500m race with a time of 4:32.25 at the USC-UCLA Dual Meet on April 30. .
HIGH SCHOOL: Capellino is a 2011 graduate of Palos Verdes High in Palos Verdes, Calif where she competed in cross country and track and field...She took third place in the CIF Southern Section Division 3 Cross Country finals on a 3.25 course with a time of 18:39 and fifth at the CIF State Championships on a 5K course with a time of 18:04...Also has cross country best of 18:04 on a 5000m course, 18:10 on a 2.95 mile course and 17.56 on a three mile course...In, track as a senior, Capellino placed second in the 800m and 1600m at the CIF Southern Section Division 3 finals with PRs respectively of 2:14.35 and 4:51.10...Won the one-mile seeded race at the Arcadia Invitational as a senior with a time of 4:57.31...Won the CIF Southern Section 800m final as a sophomore.
PERSONAL: Erica was born on January 26, 1993 in Torrance, Calif...Her parents are Kathy and Rick Capellino and she has two siblings, Jordan (Yale) and Alyssa (USC)...Her father attended USC, as did her cousins Jenna and Sam Carmack, uncle Jim Carmack and aunt Terrie Capellino (Carmack)...Lists her favorite place as the beach...Likes to ski, surf and dance in her spare time...Is a Human Biology major at USC...Volunteers for the Joint Educational Project, a service learning organization at USC, the Trojan Athletic Senate and Athletes In Action...Named honorable mention on the 2013 Pac-12 All-Academic team.
