Kaleigh Gilchrist Named MPSF Player of the Week|
April 22, 2013
Kaleigh Gilchrist scored three big goals for USC in its key MPSF win over No. 4 rival UCLA last week, and has deservedly picked up honors as the MPSF Player of the Week.
Gilchrist started the day by earning USC's first 6-on-5 advantage of the game to help the Trojans take a 1-0 lead in the road match. Gilchrist ripped in two powerful backhand scores - one in the first period and one in the last - and added a deft counterattack finish in the third to complete her hat trick. She scored twice in USC's five-goal scoring run to help the Trojans lock in as the No. 2 seed in the MPSF Tournament with the 11-6 road win over the Bruins.
This is Gilchrist's second career selection as MPSF Player of the Week, having earned the honor last season as a sophomore. She is the third Trojan to win the award this season. Gilchrist and the Women of Troy are now prepping for action at the 2013 MPSF Championships, which will be held April 26-28 in Berkeley, Calif. The 21-1 Trojans are looking to win the tourney and secure an automatic berth in the 2013 NCAA Championships.
