Record-Breaker Monica Vavic Named MPSF Player of the Week|
March 17, 2015
Monica Vavic became USC's all-time leading scorer with her four-goal game in the Trojans' 17-9 MPSF win over No. 6 Arizona State. For her record-setting efforts, the senior also has been named the MPSF Player of the Week, marking her fifth career pick for the award.
Vavic entered last week's MPSF battle against the Sun Devils needing three goals to set the new career scoring record at USC. She scored once in the first half before delivering three goals in the third period of play to push the Trojans out of reach of the Sun Devils and pull herself into the No. 1 spot in career goals at USC, now with 257 goals. That mark also stands as the fifth most in MPSF history. Vavic also contributed three assists and a steal in the win, which improved the Trojans to 15-2 overall and 1-1 in MPSF play.
Vavic has scored 66 goals for the Women of Troy to date in her senior season, standing as the conference's top scorer and the sixth most single-season goals in USC history.
The Women of Troy are currently in Hawai'i for training and competition. USC will face Pomona-Pitzer at 3 p.m. HT on Thursday (March 19) in Honolulu. On Friday (March 20), the Trojans will play host Hawai'i at 5:30 p.m. HT. The week's work will wrap up with an exhibition game against the Brazilian National Team at 4 p.m. HT on Saturday (March 21), also in Honolulu.
