LOS ANGELES – Men’s track and field senior Conor McCullough and women’s water polo sophomore Stephania Haralabidis were named USC Credit Union Student-Athletes of the Week for the week of Feb. 2-8, on Monday, Feb. 9.

Conor McCullough showcased his talent with a monumental day on the men’s weight throw at the Frank Sevigne Invitational. On his second throw of the event, the redshirt senior scored a 74-7.00 (22.73m) setting both a USC record and the meet record. McCullough won the event by almost three feet, and three of his six throws were good enough to place first as well.

McCullough’s record-breaking accomplishment surpassed the old mark that stood since 2007. With his performance at the Frank Sevigne Invitational, McCullough is now third place in the country in the men’s weight throw. The Trojans are next scheduled to compete at the Don Kirby Elite Meet in Albuquerque, N.M. on Saturday, Feb. 13 and Sunday, Feb. 14.

Also nominated for men’s student-athlete of the week honors: Rico Hoey (golf), Christopher Orenic (volleyball) and Cristian Quintero (swimming).

Stephania Haralabidis led the Women of Troy in a dominant showing over the weekend at the Triton Invitational. In the Trojans’ first two matches of bracket play against Cal State East Bay and Long Beach State, Haralabidis scored two goals apiece, as the Trojans advanced to the semifinals against No. 11 Cal State Northridge.

The sophomore’s highlight performance came on day two of the tournament where she rifled in five goals as the No. 3-ranked Trojans upended Cal State Northridge 19-3.  In the finals against No. 6 UC Irvine, Haralabidis was back at it again, providing another five-goal performance. Each time the Anteaters would get within one goal of USC, Haralabidis answered back with a goal of her own. The Trojans went on to beat UC Irvine 10-5, and claim the tournament title.

Also nominated for women’s student-athlete of the week honors: Caroline de Lyra (lacrosse) and Dior Hall (track and field).

The USC Credit Union Student-Athletes of the Week are voted on by the student assistants and Sports Information Directors of the USC Sports Information Office. Nominations are compiled and distributed for voting by Alec Koondel.
