No. 1 USC Defeats No. 2 Stanford, 8-4, In MPSF Showdown|

LOS ANGELES - Freshman Erika Figge scored three goals Saturday as the No. 1 USC Trojans remained perfect on the season with an 8-4 win against the No. 2 Stanford Cardinal in Mountain Pacific Sports Federation action at McDonald's Swim Stadium. The Women of Troy broke a 2-2 tie in the first period with six unanswered goals until Stanford's Laurel Champion scored with 4:22 remaining in the fourth period.
USC improved to 17-0 on the season and 8-0 in MPSF play with conference wins against Stanford and UCLA. The Cardinal falls to 13-3 on the season and are now 5-1 in MPSF action.
Moriah Van Norman scored the first goal of the match for USC with 4:26 left in the first period, but Alison Gregorka tied the match 19 seconds later for the Cardinal. Both teams traded goals before USC's Eszter Gyori scored with 1:34 left in the first period. USC kept Stanford off the scoreboard in the second and third periods as the Women of Troy outscored the Cardinal by a 5-0 margin.
USC will resume MPSF action next Friday (April 9) in a match at San Diego State that will begin at 3 p.m., instead of the originally scheduled 1 p.m. time. The Women of Troy will then travel to Arizona State for another conference match on Saturday (April 10) at 1 p.m.
