    Women's Water Polo Falls to No. 3 Cal

    March 27, 1998

    SAN PABLO, Calif. -- The No. 3 ranked California women's water polo team defeated USC, 3-1, Friday at Contra Costa College Pool in San Pablo. The Bears improve to 16-3 on the season, while the Trojans fall to 12-10.

    After a scoreless first two quarters, Cal sophomore Colette Glinkowski finally broke the ice with a goal in the third period. USC was able to tie the match on a 6-on-5 goal by junior Kellie Clarke for a 1-1 tie going into the final period.

    In the fourth quarter, the Bears continued their tough defense and were able to tallying two goals, on shots by senior Alisa vonHartitzsch and freshman Beth Irwin, for the final 3-1 score.

    Both goalies had good games, with USC's Bernice Orwig recording seven blocks and Cal's Evi Schueller had five blocks.

    The Bears will next travel to Pacific, Thursday, Apr. 2.
