HONOLULU, HAWAI'I -- The USC women's water polo team wrapped up its trip to Hawai'i with an exhibition clash against the Brazilian National Team today in Honolulu. USC's training trip this week featured two nonconference wins against Pomona-Pitzer and host Hawai'i before tonight's face-off against Brazil. It was a chance for USC freshman goalie Victória Chamorro to face off against her own national teammates, and Chamorro and her USC squad were up to the challenge in exhibition action. USC posted a 10-8 win over the Brazilians, having built up a powerful lead in the first half to roll on to the exhibition win.

A one-two punch between the Trojans and the Brazilians had the game locked up 1-1 during the first frame before USC made its move. Eike Daube and Jennifer Stiefel got to the back of the net next to break the tie and nudge USC ahead 3-1 by the close of the first period. Three consecutive USC goals came next, with Stephania Haralabidis drilling two goals around a blast from Melissa Bergesen as USC worked ahead 6-1. Brazil would break up the rally, only to see Daube and Avery Peterson rattle in scores next, and the Trojans were enjoying an 8-2 halftime advantage.

Brazil came out stronger in the second half and got two goals to go before Stiefel struck in the final minute of the third, making it 9-4 Trojans entering the last frame. The Brazilians mustered up a four-goal surge next, cutting the deficit down to one as Brazil was back just 9-8 with 1:41 left to play. Sydney Blubaugh hammered home a goal with 1:22 left to play to give USC a boost, and that extra padding would hold until the final buzzer, leaving USC with the 10-8 win in exhibition play.

The Trojans now return to California for two games next weekend. USC will first pay a visit to LMU for a 1 p.m. nonconference bout against the Lions on Saturday (March 28) before heading out to Bakersfield to face the Roadrunners in MPSF action at 1 p.m. on Sunday (March 29).
