    USC Women's Water Polo Loses to UC Santa Barbara, 2-1

    LOS ANGELES -- Despite a brilliant performance by USC junior goalie Bernice Orwig, the UC Santa Barbara women's water polo team defeated the Women of Troy, 2-1, at the McDonald's Swim Stadium on Saturday afternoon.

    The Women of Troy fell to 1-6 overall and 0-3 in the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation. The three conference losses have been by a total of four goals. UCSB improved to 4-3, 1-0.

    Both goalies played well. Orwig had eight saves overall, including five in the fourth quarter. The Gauchos' Angie Seto, a junior, also had eight saves.

    Catherine Hill, a sophomore, scored both goals for the Gauchos, one in the first quarter and one in the third quarter. USC didn't get on the board until 3:50 was left in the contest on a goal by sophomore 2-meter player Selah Mapes.

    Orwig blocked a penalty shot with 1:42 left in the fourth quarter to keep the Women of Troy in the game, but they were unable to score in the final minutes.

    USC next travels to the UC Santa Barbara Tournament next weekend (Feb. 27-March 1).
