LOS ANGELES -- Vanessa Wasik scored her second goal of the game with 58 seconds remaining in the second overtime period to lift the Hawai'i women's water polo team to a 5-4 victory over USC at the McDonald's Swim Stadium on Saturday afternoon.
The Women of Troy fell to 1-5 overall and 0-2 in the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation. Hawai'i improved to 5-1, 1-0.
Both goalies did a tremendous job of keeping their teams in the game, which was played in a huge downpour. The Rainbows' Lila Fraser had 14 saves, while the Women of Troy's Bernice Orwig had 13.
The game was tight throughout. The Rainbows had a 2-1 lead midway through the first quarter, but USC's Jennifer Simpson scored the next two goals, one at the end of the first period and the other at the end of the second period, to give the Women of Troy a 3-2 lead.
USC led 4-3 heading into the fourth quarter, but Wasik tied it on a 6-on-5 goal with 5:20 to play in regulation.
