SAN FRANCISCO - USC junior outside hitter Samantha Bricio was named to the Pac-12 Volleyball All-Conference team for the third time in her career on Tuesday, Dec. 2. Sophomore outside hitter Ebony Nwanebu and junior middle blocker Alicia Ogoms each received all-conference honorable mention.
Bricio takes home USC's 66th all-time All-Pac-12 certificate from among 33 different Women of Troy. Including all-conference selections preceding the Pac-12, Trojans now hold 89 all-league recognitions since 1977. Nwanebu receives her first all-conference honorable mention but was All-Pac-12 as the conference Freshman of the Year in 2013. Ogoms receives her first honorable mention nod and was a Pac-12 All-Freshman honorable mention in 2012.
With three selections, Bricio becomes the 11th Trojan to earn all-conference honors from the Pac-12 three times. She joins Emily Adams, Keao Burdine, Bibiana Candelas, Natalie Hagglund, Katie Haller, Alex Jupiter, Jasmina Marinkovic, Jennifer Pahl, April Ross, and Meika Wagner. Ross is USC's only four-time All-Pac-12 honoree.
This season, Bricio leads the Pac-12 and is second in the nation in service aces (78) and aces per set (0.69 saps). She became both the USC and Pac-12 career leader for aces in a match against California (Nov. 14) and now has 206 career service aces. Bricio is USC's leading scorer (5.23 pps), which ranks fourth in the Pac-12. She also ranks sixth in the league with 4.27 kills per set. Bricio is a 2013 All-American (2nd team and honorable mention in 2012) and was the Pac-12 Freshman of the Year in 2012.
Nwanebu ranks second on the team in kills (3.04 kps) and points (3.47 pps). She was a member of the Pac-12's preseason all-conference team and earned MVP honors at the Commonwealth Classic tournament this season. She was also a member of the all-tournament team at the Pac-12/Big Ten Showcase. Nwanebu began playing all six rotations midseason and has since produced five double-doubles for USC.
Ogoms leads USC in hitting percentage (.370) and ranks fourth in the Pac-12. She also leads the Trojans in blocks (0.99 bps) and set career highs in all statistical categories this season. Ogoms received Pac-12 All-Academic honorable mention and was a member of the all-tournament team at the Community Bankers Volleyball Classic.
The Women of Troy (15-15, 8-12 Pac-12) finished 10th in their conference, but were selected to the program's 24th straight NCAA tournament (32nd all-time). USC will face Coastal Carolina (25-6) of the Big South Conference in the first round on Friday, Dec. 5, at 4:30 p.m. ET in Chapel Hill, N.C. First- and second-round host North Carolina (26-2) sits on the other side of the bracket and will face Hampton (21-10) in the other first-round match.
