LOS ANGELES - The USC women's volleyball team (15-15, 8-12 Pac-12) was chosen as one of 64 teams in the 2014 NCAA Division I Women's Volleyball Championship on Sunday, Nov. 30. The Women of Troy will make their 24th consecutive appearance in the tournament and 32nd overall.
USC was placed in the Minneapolis region and drew Coastal Carolina (25-6) of the Big South Conference in the first round. The Trojans and the Chanticleers will meet at 4:30 p.m. ET on Friday, Dec. 5, at Carmichael Arena in Chapel Hill, N.C. In the other first-round match, seventh-seeded North Carolina (26-2) and Hampton (21-10) will take the court at 6:30 p.m. ET. First-round winners will meet in the second round at 6 p.m. ET on Saturday, Dec. 6.
Seeded teams in the region are No. 2 Texas, No. 10 Oregon, and No. 15 Colorado State. The top four seeds in the 2014 tournament include No. 1 Stanford (Ames Regional), No. 2 Texas (Minneapolis Regional), No. 3 Washington (Seattle Regional), and No. 4 Wisconsin (Louisville Regional). USC's trip to Chapel Hill, N.C. marks the first time in 12 years that the Trojans will not host first- and second-round matches at home. The Women of Troy have begun their tournament run at home 20 times since 1992.
The Trojans own a 118-35 (.771) all-time postseason record and are 72-28 (.720) in the NCAA tournament. USC has won six national championships including the first-ever NCAA title awarded in 1981. The Women of Troy also won back-to-back crowns in 2002 and 2003. USC holds three AIAW titles (1976, '77, '80). Last year, the Trojans hosted and advanced the Los Angeles Regional championship match to mark the 10th time since the NCAA expanded to a field of 64 teams in 1998 that USC has gone at least that far.
