WALNUT CREEK, Calif. - USC freshman outside hitter Ebony Nwanebu was named Pac-12 Freshman of the Week for the week of Sept. 23-29. The first-year Trojan was honored by the conference for the second time, this season, and was chosen alongside Washington's Krista Vansant who was the Offensive Player of the Week, and Colorado's Nikki Lindow who was named Defensive Player of the Week.

It is USC's eighth all-time Pac-12 Freshman of the Week award. Nwanebu was chosen for the award for her performance in the first week of the season and fellow freshman outside hitter Elise Ruddins won the honor for the week of Sept. 9-15. Current sophomore outside hitter Samantha Bricio was selected for the honor five times in 2012. Only offensive and defensive weekly awards are counted in a team's total conference weekly honors of which the Trojans own 53 all-time.

Nwanebu powered the Trojan offense to a big win over No. 11-ranked crosstown rival UCLA as she posted 17 kills (4e, 31att) and a .419 hitting percentage. She added two blocks and a dig and led the way with 18.0 points. In her first league road match, she maintained her attack prowess to log nine kills (2e, 17att) for a .412 hitting percentage during a 3-0 sweep of Utah. On the week, she posted 26 kills (3.71 kps) and hit an incredible .417 from the right side for 4.00 points per set.

Weekly awards have been selected every week of the season since the Pac-12 began sponsoring women's volleyball in 1986. It is the third year in which the conference has selected separate offensive, defensive, and rookie honorees.

The second-ranked Women of Troy (12-1, 2-0 Pac-12) are back in action with home matches against seventh-ranked Stanford (9-2, 2-0) on Friday (Oct. 4) at 8 p.m. PT, and California (8-3, 1-1) on Sunday (Oct. 6) at 1 p.m. PT, at Galen Center. Both matches will be carried live on the Pac-12 Networks. Please visit USCTrojans.com for more information and check your local listings for broadcast availability.
