LOS ANGELES – Senior quarterback Cody Kessler and women’s volleyball senior Samantha Bricio were named USC Credit Union Student-Athletes of the Week for the week of Sept. 7-13, on Monday, Sept. 14.

Cody Kessler continued his electrifying start to the Trojans’ 2015 campaign by completing 26 of 31 passes for a career-high 410 yards in the 59-9 win over Idaho. The Vandals had no answers to stopping the senior quarterback as Kessler also threw for three touchdowns in front of 72,000-plus at the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum.

Kessler found wide-out JuJu Smith-Schuster 10 times, including on touchdown passes of 50 and 41-yards. Kessler also connected with redshirt junior wide-out Isaac Whitney on a 28-yard touchdown in the third quarter to extend the Trojans’ lead to 45-9. Following the game, Kessler was also named Trojan of the Game. Up next, the No.6-ranked Trojans take on Stanford at the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum on Saturday (Sept. 19) at 5:00 p.m. PT.

Also nominated for men’s student-athlete of the week: JuJu Smith (football) and Blake Edwards (water polo).

Samantha Bricio showcased an impressive performance at the USC Classic on her way to being named the tournament's Most Valuable Player and this week’s Pac-12 Offensive Player of the Week—her third straight conference weekly honor. By the end of the tournament, Bricio moved from ninth place to sixth place in USC program history for career kills and now has 1,586.

To kick off the tournament against Utah State, the senior matched a USC single-match record with eight service aces. She also compiled a match-high 22.5 points and 17 kills in the 3-0 sweep over Pepperdine. On day two, Bricio tallied 17 kills against Idaho State and ultimately led USC to the title with 21 kills in the final victory over New Mexico. Bricio's third straight Pac-12 Player of the Week makes her the first player to receive the award three times in a row in the same season since 2001. The third-ranked Women of Troy look to remain unbeaten when they face Oklahoma at the Oklahoma Invitational on Thursday (Sept. 17) at 6:00 p.m. PT.

The USC Credit Union Student-Athletes of the Week are voted on by the student assistants and Sports Information Directors of the USC Sports Information Office. Nominations are compiled and distributed for voting by Alec Koondel. Student assistant voters include, Andrew McKagan, Eike Daube, Tera Novy, Carlene Jones, Kiia Brantley, Dru Chavez, Rachel Dobrin, Mariya Dondonyan, Meagan Manahan and Brett Warner.
