LEXINGTON, Ky. -- USC junior women's volleyball player Alex Jupiter (Paris, France/Redondo Union HS) for then-No. 10 University of Southern California, has been named the Sports Imports/AVCA Division I National Player of the Week. The 6-3 outside hitter earned the award after leading the Women of Troy to a perfect 3-0 record at the Hawaiian Airlines Wahine Classic, which included wins over three teams who were ranked or receiving votes in the AVCA Division I Coaches Top 25 Poll.

Jupiter began the weekend by tallying 10 kills, seven digs, three solo blocks and one ace in USC's sweep of New Mexico. She followed with a 17-kill, three-dig, six-block, one-ace outing in the Women of Troy's whitewashing of Michigan State. The 2009 AVCA Third-Team All-American ended the tournament by notching a double-double in USC's five-set thriller over then-No. 4 Hawai'i, totaling 22 kills, 16 digs, two aces and one block.

For the week, Jupiter, who was named the tournament's most outstanding player, averaged 4.45 kills, 2.36 digs, 5.55 points and nearly one block per set, while hitting .300. Jupiter's honor marks the sixth time an athlete from USC received the Sports Imports/AVCA Division I National Player of the Week award, the last being Asia Kaczor on Oct. 29, 2007.

USC will host Virginia on Friday (Sept. 10) in a 7 p.m. match at the Galen Center. The match will be broadcast live on usctrojans.com, courtesy of SC TV.
