    AVCA Preseason Poll

    Aug. 12, 2015

LEXINGTON, Ky. -- The USC women's volleyball team will be ranked No. 22 when it opens the 2015 campaign on Friday, Aug. 28, against North Carolina. The Women of Troy received 255 points in the poll and are one of a league-record nine Pac-12 teams in the top 25. The conference head coaches picked the Trojans to finish fifth in the final standings.

Defending NCAA champion Penn State received 54 of 62 available first-place votes and will hold the top ranking to begin its title defense. Among Pac-12 schools, defending league champion Stanford had six first-place votes and is ranked No. 2. Washington was ranked No. 10; Oregon is No. 13; Arizona State is No. 16; Arizona is No. 17; UCLA is No. 20; Utah is No. 23; and Colorado is ranked No. 24.

Besides its slate of ranked conference foes, USC will also face several ranked teams in non-conference matches. The Trojans will take on No. 7 North Carolina, No. 11 BYU, and No. 15 Kentucky. USC also gets matches against Oklahoma, Oregon State, and Creighton among teams receiving votes but just outside of the top 25.

The Trojans appear in the AVCA coaches poll for the 457th time, which ranks fifth all-time. Only Nebraska and Stanford, which have each appeared in every single poll, Hawai'i, and UCLA, have appeared in more polls than the Women of Troy.

Last season, the Trojans went to a 24th straight NCAA tournament (32nd overall) and defeated Coastal Carolina in the first round, but fell to site host No. 7 North Carolina in the second round in Chapel Hill, N.C. USC finished 10th in the Pac-12 and had a 16-16 overall record. The Trojans return two-time All-American outside hitter Samantha Bricio and All-America honorable mention libero Taylor Whittingham to the lineup in 2015 to go with a highly-touted freshman class.

USC opens the season as host of the Women of Troy Baden Invitational (Aug. 28-29) and welcomes BYU, Chicago State, and North Carolina to the Galen Center.
