LOS ANGELES - Former graduate assistant Shea McBrearty has been hired in a full-time role as USC women's volleyball Director of Operations. McBrearty was officially hired on April 29, 2014.
McBrearty was the Trojans' graduate manager in 2013 and previously served as the assistant coach at Navarro College (Corsicana, Texas) where she helped guide the Bulldogs to an 18-11 record in 2012. Her duties included game film analysis and scouting report preparation. McBrearty also served as Navarro's recruiting coordinator and was responsible for overall player development as well as the operations of the volleyball program. While McBrearty was a member of the Navarro staff, the Bulldogs had four all-conference players and one All-America nominee.
Before Navarro College, McBrearty was a graduate assistant at Tarleton State for the 2011 season. The TexAnns went 20-14 to post their third 20-win season in four years and were 13-7 in conference matches to earn a spot in the Lone Star Conference tournament. Tarleton advanced to the tourney's semifinals and had two all-conference players.
McBrearty has served as a camp coordinator and camp coach at Tarleton State, and with the University of Texas. She was also the head coach of the Stephenville Junior Volleyball Club 15s in 2009.
As a player, McBrearty was a standout libero at Tarleton State and was selected for All-Lone Star Conference first-team honors as a senior in 2010. She was a four-year letterwinner (2007-10) with the TexAnns and is the school's record holder for career digs (1,847). McBrearty holds three of the top four single-season records for digs at Tarleton State (2008-10) and has two of the top five single-season averages for digs. As a senior, she led her team in service aces with 39. Her career awards include CoSIDA/ESPN Academic All-District honors, academic all-conference, and three selections to the Commissioner's Honor Roll. McBrearty was the TexAnns' team captain for two years and was the squad's MVP as a senior. She was also active in student-athlete life as president of the Student-Athlete Advisory Council (2009-10).
In addition to her on-court achievements, McBrearty served as an adjunct faculty member at Navarro College where she taught a course in business with an emphasis on management and leadership. She has also appeared on camera during a term as an intern with Austin's CBS affiliate (KEYE-TV) and was a substitute teacher at James Bowie High School.
McBrearty graduated from Tarleton State summa cum laude with a bachelor of science in communications (2010) and was selected as that year's commencement speaker. She received her masters in management and leadership from TSU in 2011. McBrearty currently resides in Los Angeles.
