    Kessy-Ross Advance To Quarters Of 2012 Olympic Beach Volleyball

    One-time Women of Troy stars Jennifer Kessy and April Ross advanced to the quarterfinals of the women’s sand volleyball competition at the 2012 London Olympics with a quick 21-15, 21-19 win over Switzerland's Simone Kuhn and Nadine Zunkehr in the Round of 16 play on Friday (Aug. 3).

    The Americans served 6 aces in their 43-minute victory over the Swiss, the world’s No. 9 pair. Ross had 5 of those aces along with 12 kills, while Kessy added 14 kills.

    Kessy/Ross, the world’s No. 4-ranked team, remained undefeated through four matches in the London Games. The duo will now play in the quarterfinals on Sunday (Aug. 5) against the winner of today’s Round of 16 match between Brazil’s Maria Antonelli-Talita Rocha, ranked No. 5 in the world, and Czech Republic’s Kristyna Kolocova-Marketa Slukova, ranked 11th.

    Kessy was a 2-time All-Conference performer at USC while lettering from 1995 to 1998. Ross, who lettered from 2000 to 2003, was a 2-time All-American and was the 2003 Honda Award winner for women's volleyball as she led the Women of Troy to the 2002 and 2003 NCAA titles. Kessy and Ross have combined for 21 pro tournament victories.
