The top-ranked USA women's volleyball team, with former Trojan Nicole Davis starting again at libero, continued its quest for its first-ever gold medal by defeating its toughest challenger, No. 2-ranked Brazil, with a 25-18, 25-17, 22-25, 25-21 showing in preliminary play on Monday (July 30) at the 2012 London Olympics.

Davis recorded 18 digs in the match.

Davis, who helped the Women of Troy capture the 2002 and 2003 NCAA titles, is appearing in her second Olympics. She and her USA teammates won a silver medal at the 2008 Games in Beijing.

The USA team next faces No. 3 China on Aug. 1 at noon (PT) in Group B preliminary round action.
