LOS ANGELES -- Former USC women's volleyball players Keao Burdine and April Ross recorded their best finish so far on the beach with a ninth-place posting at the AVP Sacramento Open (June 15-18). The Burdine-Ross team, playing in its first season together, made it to the main draw after being a No. 15 qualifying entry.

Former WOT Jennifer (Kessy) Boss recorded another third-place finish with teammate Nancy Mason. It was the second time this season that Boss finished third, giving her over $25,000 in earnings on the season.

Another former WOT, Tracy Lindquist, also finished ninth this weekend as she teamed once again with her sister, Katie.

Burdine and Ross made their remarkable run in the qualifiers' bracket with sweeps over No. 18 seed Angela McHenry/Lisa Rutledge, No. 2 seed Mary Baily/Julie Romias and No. 7 seed Erin Byrd/Paige Davis to earn a spot in the main draw.

In the main draw, Burdine and Ross defeated No. 9 seed Jenny Pavley/Paula Roca and No. 8 seed Carrie Dodd/Barbra Fontana in a three-set match to earn a chance to face top-seeded Misty May-Treanor/Kerri Walsh. A 15-21, 16-21 defeat dropped the USC duo to the contenders' bracket where No. 14 seed Alicia Polzin/Denise Johns ended the weekend for Burdine/Ross with a three-set win.

The AVP heads to the East Coast for the next event (June 29-July 2) at the Seaside Heights Open in New Jersey.
