LOS ANGELES - USC women's volleyball sophomore outside hitter Samantha Bricio earned Top Scorer honors as a member of the all-tournament team at the XII Movistar Women's Pan American Cup in Lima, Peru, this week. The second-year Trojan played for Mexico and tallied 85 kills, 16 service aces, and six blocks over the course of five matches to log 107 points and lead all players in the international competition.

In her first pool play match, Bricio was unconscionable as she earned 16 kills with just a single error (19att) for a .789 hitting percentage in Mexico's 3-0 win over Columbia (25-18, 25-23, 25-16). She added four service aces and two blocks in that match for a total of 22 points.

Against Brazil, Bricio had 25 kills (4e, 60att) and a .350 hitting percentage to go with seven service aces. It was the best single-match serving performance by any player in the tournament. The 32 points she tallied against the Brazilians was also the most in a single match by any player in the tourney. Mexico lost the match in four sets.

Bricio logged a double-double in Mexico's tough five-set loss to host nation Peru (20-25, 26-28, 25-20, 25-17, 16-14) in post-pool play as she put up 21 kills (6e, 68att, .221) to go with 10 digs. She also had a pair of blocks in the match.

Attempting to come out of one of the toughest pools, Mexico finished in 12th place overall. Bricio completed the tournament with 4.72 kills per set and a .310 hitting percentage. She led all players with 5.94 points per set.

Bricio will now rejoin the Women of Troy who will open the 2013 season on the road in the Mortar Board Premiere tournament at host Purdue in West Lafayette, Ind., on Friday, Aug. 30. Last year, the Trojans finished 30-6 and advanced to the NCAA regional championship in Austin. Please visit www.USCTrojans.com for more information and a complete schedule.
