No. 7 USC Women'S Volleyball Defeats California in Pac-10 Match
LOS ANGELES, Calif.- The No. 7 USC women's volleyball team, led by junior outside hitter Jennifer Kessy's 16 kills and 11 digs, defeated California, 15-6, 15-6, 12-15, 15-13, in a Pacific-10 Conference match in front of 689 at the North Gym on Saturday.
The Women of Troy improved to 11-2 overall, 4-2 in the Pac-10. California dropped to 6-8, 1-4.
In addition to Kessy, USC got 14 kills from junior middle blocker Jasmina Marinkovic and 9 kills from freshman outside hitter Antoinette Polk. Cal had 3 players with double figures in kills, led by sophomore outside hitter Brook Coulter,s 13.
USC looked headed for an easy sweep, but let an 11-3 lead in the third game get away when USC Coach Lisa Love emptied her bench. Cal looked like it might send the match to a fifth game, leading in Game 4, 13-11. But USC rallied with 4 consecutive points as junior middle blocker Alaina Kipps ended the match with her eighth kill. USC next travels to Oregon on Thursday (Oct. 9) and to Oregon State on Friday (Oct. 10).
