Zoe Garrett's kill gave USC a 6-5 lead in set two before Janet Okogbaa tied it and the Cardinal added to more points for the 8-6 margin. Roleder and Garrett teamed on a block to tie it at 8-8, but Klineman and Akinradewo completed a long rally but recording the block for the 10-8 Stanford advantage. Back-to-back errors by the Women of Troy increased the Cardinal lead to 16-12, but a Carico/Garrett block helped as USC would trail, 17-15. Gysin and Williams recorded solo blocks against Akinradewo, but Barboza's kill kept Stanford ahead at 20-18. Stanford's service error provided the key for USC as Williams followed with an overpass kill and the go-ahead kill for a 21-20 USC lead. Akinradewo evened it after the Stanford timeout as both teams traded a point for a 22-22 score. Carico then sneaked a shot as USC retook the lead and Gysin hit a pile driver for set point. Carico delivered again with the "310" kill to tie the match.
Klineman made it a 5-4 score for the Cardinal in the third set. Garrett started three straight as USC took the lead at 7-5. After USC burned its final timeout of the set, Akinradewo got the Maples Pavilion crowd going with another kill as the Cardinal pushed it to set point at 24-18. Roleder gave a gleam of hope as kills from Carico and Williams made it a 24-21 score before Barboza recorded the kill off the block for a 2-1 Stanford lead in the match.
In the fourth set, the Cardinal mirrored its performance from the first set as Stanford rattled off four straight points at the start. Gysin got USC's first point, but Lichtman's service ace gave Stanford a six-point lead at 10-4. With a 16-9 deficit, the Trojans looked to mount a comeback with a 6-3 run.
