    LOS ANGELES -- The No. 21-ranked USC women's volleyball team (8-5, 0-2 Pac-12) dropped a three-set decision, 28-26, 25-16, 25-18, to No. 4 Washington (11-1, 1-1) at Galen Center on Friday, Sept 23.

The Women of Troy got 11.5 points from junior opposite hitter Niki Withers, who finished with 10 kills (5e, 21att, .238) and three blocks. Fellow junior opposite Brittany Abercrombie picked up seven kills (2e, 17att, .294) and had two blocks. Sophomore outside hitter Alyse Ford added six kills (2e, 19att, .211) with seven digs and freshman outside hitter Khalia Lanier had six kills and four digs. On defense, sophomore libero Victoria Garrick had 13 digs.

Three players had double-digit kills for the Huskies who hit .340 in the match. Courtney Schwan led all players with 13 kills and had nine digs and a pair of service aces. Crissy Jones had 12 kills, eight digs, and a pair of aces. Tia Scambray had 10 kills, seven digs, and six blocks, and Kara Bajema had nine kills and five blocks.

USC led by as many as five points in the opening set at 9-4, but Washington went on a 7-2 run to knot the score at 11-all. The teams went back and forth for a total of 14 ties before Scambray's kill and a Husky block sewed up a 28-26 win for UW. Washington never trailed in the second set and went up by eight, 17-9, when Bajema score a kill and back-to-back service aces. In the end, the Huskies posted a 25-16 win to go up, 2-0, in the match.

The Huskies came out running in the third and created a quick 5-0 lead. The Trojans fought back to get within a point at 7-6, but only came within two points the rest of the way. Schwan's kill opened up a six-point Washington lead at 21-15, and it was all UW needed as the Huskies wrapped up the sweep with a 25-18 win in the third.

Up next, the Trojans head to the mountains for matches against Colorado (Sept. 30) and at Utah (Oct. 1) on back-to-back nights. The USC-CU match will be shown live on Pac-12 Network, Pac-12 Los Angeles, and Pac-12 Mountain. Both matches are slated for 7 p.m. starts in the Pacific Time Zone.
