    CEDAR FALLS, Iowa -- The eighth-ranked USC women's volleyball team (4-0) earned a three-set victory (25-17, 25-16, 25-8) over Creighton (1-3) in the first match of the UNI Tournament at McLeod Center on Friday, Sept. 4. The Women of Troy won their 11th straight set as they hit .402 against the Bluejays.

    The Trojans got a match-high 16.0 points from senior outside hitter Samantha Bricio. Bricio scored six of the final eight points of the first set and finished with 12 kills (2e, 28att) for a .357 hitting rate to go with two service aces, seven digs, and four blocks. Sophomore opposite hitter Brittany Abercrombie notched 10 kills without an error (21att) for a .476 hitting percentage and added three blocks for 11.5 points.

    Senior middle blocker Alicia Ogoms added seven kills (0e, 13att) with a .538 hitting percentage and four blocks while freshman outside hitter Alyse Ford also had seven kills (1e, 18att, .33) with five digs. USC hit .402 thanks to the setting of freshman Baylee Johnson who dished out 25 assists to go with eight digs and three kills. Junior setter Alice Pizzasegola added 12 assists.

    On defense, the Trojans finished with 7.0 blocks and were led by junior libero Taylor Whittingham who had a season-high 24 digs. Freshman defender Victoria Garrick added five digs.

    For the Bluejays, Jaali Winters had nine kills (10e, 39att) but hit negative (-.026). Jess Bird totaled seven kills (2e, 16att, .312) while Marysa Wilkinson had six kills (3e, 25att, .120). Kate Elman led the defense with 12 digs and Kenzie Crawford had 28 assists and eight digs for Creighton, which hit .104 in the match (32k, 20e, 115 att).

    USC was seldom threatened in the final set as it opened up a 10-1 lead in no time. The Trojans went up by 12 at 20-8 and grabbed the final five points to sew up a 25-8 win. The second set was a different story as the Bluejays led by two, 10-8, before USC heated up and scored a 17-11 lead thanks to its 9-1 run. Creighton made a short comeback bid, but stalled at 16 as the Trojans earned the final five points for a second straight set to win, 25-16. USC led by four, 17-13, in the first set, but Bricio turned it on to score six points down the stretch and closed out the 25-17 win.

    The Women of Troy return to action at 10 a.m. CT (8 a.m. PT) on Saturday, Sept. 5, against No. 10 Kentucky (3-1) at the UNI Tournament. USC wraps up the tourney against host Northern Iowa at 7:30 p.m. (5:30 p.m. PT).
