No. 3 USC Sweeps Furman, 3-0, At FGCU Invitational|

FORT MYERS, Fla. - Senior All-America outside Alex Jupiter (Paris, France/Redondo Union HS) recorded 19 kills and seven digs while hitting .410 (19-3-39) Saturday as the No. 3 USC Women of Troy swept the Furman Paladins, 3-0 (25-18, 25-22, 25-21), in FGCU Homewood Suites Volleyball Invitational action. USC finished the tournament with a 2-1 record.
Senior All-America middle blocker Lauren Williams continued a strong weekend with 12 kills and a .611 hitting clip (12-1-18) while freshman middle blocker Hannah Schraer had seven kills with no errors for a .636 match (7-0-11) and three blocks. Senior All-America setter Kendall Bateman registered a 15.0 assists-per-set average with 45 assists, five digs and two blocks.
USC improves to 3-2 overall while Furman is now 2-3 on the season. Caroline Adams led the Paladins with 10 kills and two aces.
"Furman is a really good club," said USC head coach Mick Haley. "I never felt like we were in total control at any time. We were able to win on our serving and passing today which was the key."
The big run for the Women of Troy came in the third set when USC was able to reel off eight straight points to put the match away in the first-ever meeting between the two schools in women's volleyball.
USC travels to Orlando tomorrow to play Clemson in a non-conference match at noon Eastern time. Gametracker live stats will be available on usctrojans.com.
Notes: Alex Jupiter moved into eighth place on USC's career list for kills, passing Megan McCallister (1987-90) and now has 1,485 career kills...tomorrow's match will be USC's fourth match in three days as the team will fly back to Los Angeles on Sunday and travel to Cal State Northridge to conclude pre-season action on Tuesday (Sept. 6).
