HIGH SCHOOL Lanier was the 2016 Gatorade National Volleyball Player of the Year and the 2015 Gatorade Arizona Player of the Year… 2016 Gatorade National Athlete of the Year finalist… was a four-year letterwinner as an outside hitter at Xavier College Preparatory in Scottsdale, Ariz., under head coach Lamar Renee-Bryant… 2016 Under Armour All-American and Volleyball Magazine High School All-American… 2012 PrepVolleyball All-American… 2013 National Sophomore of the Year… 2014 Arizona Division I Section III Most Valuable Player… ranked No. 1 Senior Ace by PrepVolleyball… MaxPreps No. 1-ranked Recruit… 2013 and 2014 Nike Tournament of Champions Most Valuable Player… 2012 USAV High Performance All-Tournament Team… chosen to Arizona All-State First Team three times and was the 2015 Arizona State Volleyball Player of the Year… member of the National Honors Society and the National Latin Honors Society.
INTERNATIONAL EXPERIENCE Lanier started her international volleyball career as a member of the 2011 USAV Future Select Team… named a 2012 High Performance All-American and to the High Performance All-Tournament Team… captained the 2012 team to a bronze medal… captained the 2013 USAV HP team to the silver medal… helped U.S. U18 Youth National Team to the 2015 World Championship silver medal.
CLUB VOLLEYBALL Lanier played six years with Arizona Storm Volleyball Club… helped the Storm reach the 2013 and 2014 Girls’ Junior National Championships… took second place at the GJNC in 2015 and third place in 2016… named Most Valuable Player at the 2013 GJNC… three-time GJNC All-American (2014-16).
PERSONAL Khalia Imani Lanier was born on Sept. 19, 1998, in Scottsdale, Ariz.… parents are Bob and Rose Lanier… has two brothers, Ravance and Kamal, and one sister, Kahori… father Bob played basketball at St. Bonaventure University where the court is named in his honor; he was the first overall pick of the 1970 NBA draft and went on to become an eight-time all-star during his career with the Detroit Pistons (1970-80) and Milwaukee Bucks (1980-84); entered the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame in 1992 and served as the interim head coach of the Golden State Warriors in 1994-95… lists her father as her biggest sports hero and wears No. 16 as a tribute to his athletic career; his number 16 is retired by both the Pistons and the Bucks… lists The Help as her favorite movie… aspires to one day play volleyball in the Olympics… majoring in human biology.
