No. 16 USC Volleyball Upsets No. 10 Washington State In Sweep

    LOS ANGELES -- The No. 16 USC women's volleyball team upset No. 10 Washington State Friday night (Oct. 11), 15-9,15-12, 15-6 in front of 612 at the North Gym.

    USC improved to 10-4 overall, 4-2 in the Pac-10. Washington State fell to 12-4, 3-3.

    In an offensive barrage, the Women of Troy were led by a trio of players. Sophomore outside Jennifer Kessy had a match-high 28 kills, sophomore middle blocker Jasmina Marinkovic had 25 kills and senior outside hitter Vesna Dragicevic had 24 kills. Kessy's and Marinkovic's performances were both personal bests. Sophomore setter Janice Mounts also had a personal best 78 assists.

    USC hit a blisterlng .484 as a team and Washington State hit .349. The Cougars were led by Sarah Silvernail's 24 kills and Shannon Wyckoff's 15 kills.

    USC, up 10-8 in Game 1, went on a 5-1 run to take the first game. The Cougars opened strong in the second game and took an 11-6 lead. But USC outscored Washington State 9-1 the rest of the way to take a 2-0 lead.

    The Women of Troy scored 8 unanswered points to open Game 3 and never looked back, taking the third game 15-6 for the sweep.

    USC next hosts Washington (15-2, 5-1) on Saturday (Oct. 12) at the North Gym at 7 p.m. Washington State plays at UCLA tomorrow night at 7 p.m.
