Trojans, Bruins Battle In Thriller

In a match drenched with sweat, intensity and tradition, USC bravely battled from behind but lost to rival UCLA in five grueling games 15-5, 15-9, 8-15, 13-15, 15-9.

After a lethargic start the Women of Troy were sparked by sophomores Jennifer Kessey and Jasmina Marinkovic, who pounded out a match-high 21 kills apiece. USC coach Lisa Love noted her squad's "fighting spirit" in the comeback but added, "All the little errors in (games) one and two were very unforgiving on rally point in game five."

Nostalgic North Gym was stuffed and the electrifying atmosphere was similar to the rivals' last meeting last year which was claimed by the Trojans in five games. USC and the Bruins meet again Oct. 11 at UCLA.
