Trojans Fall to Unbeaten Rainbows

The streaking USC Trojan women's volleyball team was stopped in four tightly contested games by the undefeated and top-ranked University of Hawaii Rainbows 15-11, 11-15, 15-11 & 15-9 Thursday night.

Despite the loss, Trojan Coach Lisa Love was pleased with her team's play and the standing-room-only (including Football Coach John Robinson and A.D. Mike Garrett) North gym atmosphere. "I loved it. It was loud, packed, hot. Hawaii is not a forgiving team. But we didn't yield or give in. We just need a little fine tuning."

The Women of Troy featured a 1-2 punch of middle blocker Jasmina Marinkovic (Soph, Uzice, Serbia), who had 17 kills, and Jennifer Kessy (Soph, San Juan Capistrano, CA), who who had 14. They had their hands full all match with 6-3 All-America middle blocker Angelica Ljungquist of the Bows, who is a dominating defensive and offensive (game-high 21 kills) presence.

The Trojans' record is 7-3. Hawaii is a spotless 13-0. USC will gear up again for another high-voltage crowd and the rival UCLA Bruins on Saturday 7:00 at North gym.
