USC will also serve as host institution for both first and second-round matches on Friday and Saturday (Dec. 5-6). Kansas State (20-12) and San Diego (25-3) will square off first at 5 p.m. on Friday and will be followed by USC (21-5) and Morgan State (25-9) at 7:30 p.m. The winners of each match will meet on Saturday at 7 p.m. All matches will be at the Lyon Center on USC,s campus. The Women of Troy, the No. 3 seed in the Pacific Region, will be making their seventh consecutive trip to the NCAAs and 15th overall. USC, ranked No. 8 in the latest AVCA Coaches Poll, put together its best regular season since 1984. Its 13-5 finish in the Pacific-10 Conference, tied for second place, was also USC,s highest Pac-10 finish ever. The NCAA Tournament is the focal point of our season every year, USC Coach Lisa Love said. What is particularly exciting this year is that we are one of only two Pac-10 teams in our bracket (Washington is the other). That gives us the opportunity to prepare fresh against teams from around the country that will give us a national perspective, which I find to be very exciting.
In the past, we have basically played a Pac-10 bracket in the Pacific Region. This year, it still appears to be a very strong region, but now it feels like a new start.
