Nov. 19, 2009
The USC women's tennis team has added another top player to its lineup with the signing of Kaitlyn Christian this week. Christian signed her national letter of intent to join the Women of Troy for the 2010-11 season to come, USC head coach Richard Gallien has announced.
Christian hails from Orange Lutheran High School in Orange, Calif., with experience on the U.S. 18-under National Team and currently ranked No. 1 in Southern California. Christian's singles success has lifted her as high as No. 3 in the nation, and she also is a sportsmanship award winner.
"Of all of the recruits available this year, Kaitlyn would be the one I would choose," Gallien said of Christian. "She's a great player, a great student, and has a great family. She will certainly have an immediate impact both at singles and doubles for us when she joins the program next season."
Christian won the Anaheim Tournament in May 2009 and was the 2008 runner-up at the CIF Southern Section championships as a junior. The 2008 Orange County Register Girls Tennis Player of the year, Christian also was selected the Southern California Tennis Association's player of the year in 2009 and defended her under-18 doubles title in 2009.
