Women of Troy Welcome Zoe Katz To The Trojan Family|
Nov. 16, 2012
The USC women's tennis team is bringing in another true winner, with Zoe Katz locked in with her signing of a letter of intent to join the Women of Troy as a freshman in 2013-14, head coach Richard Gallien has announced.
"Zoe is a great kid raised by great parents," Gallien said of Katz. "She has a wonderful smile and is the perfect fit for our team. Zoe has always wanted to be a Trojan, and the feeling is mutual. She has a bright future ahead of her and we are truly lucky to have her be a part of our team."
A Los Angeles product, Katz hails from Campbell Hall, where she helped lead her teams to three CIF division titles in four years. She stands tall as the recently crowned sectional doubles champion, and boasts her highest national rankings at No. 16 in singles and in doubles. She's been tabbed as high as No. 6 in Southern California singles, and No. 1 in SoCal doubles. Katz also reigns as a three-time CIF Doubles Champion with a string of three in a row from 2009-11.
Outside of her Campbell Hall experience -- of which she shared three seasons with current USC sophomore Sabrina Santamaria -- Katz is a 2012 Junior Fed Cup winner, a 2011 Maze Cup champ and was named the 2011 Player of the Year by the L.A. Daily News. Also a 2012 All-American, she has won two ITF doubles titles this year, and has more than 20 national tournament titles in doubles and singles playing at the junior level. In 2011, at the Winter National in Arizona, Katz was a singles semifinalist and won the Bronze Ball in doubles.
"Zoe is a winner on and off the court," associate head coach West Nott said of Katz. "Her personality is contagious and she exhibits a strong work ethic that will motivate those around her. She is one of the best doubles players in the country and we expect her to be a strong addition to our singles lineup right away."
