    Freshman Amanda Fink To Play For Regional Championship

    USC women's tennis freshman Amanda Fink (Calabasas, Calif) earned a spot in the singles final after a semifinal victory on Sunday,Oct. 23, at the ITA Women's Western Regional Championship hosted by UC San Diego.

    Fink, defeated third-seeded Bianca Dulgheru of Pepperdine, 6-0,6-1, this afternoon in the semifinals. Fink will compete in Monday morning's singles championship match against third-seeded Elena Gantcheva of UNLV. Not only is the regional crown at stake in tomorrow's match, but also an automatic bid to the ITA National Intercollegiate Indoor Championships hosted by Ohio State on Nov. 3-6.

    Junior Anca Anastasiu defeated Loyola Marymount's Paula Mesterova 6-2, 6-2 before falling to Dulgheru 6-2, 6-3 in the quarter-finals Saturday, Oct. 22. Fellow classmates Dianne Matias and Judy DeVera both earned a spot in the quarter-finals Saturday. Matias fell 7-6 (5),6-2 to Gantcheva while DeVera lost 6-3, 6-1 to Emma Murphy of San Diego.

    In doubles play Fink and Carine Vermeulen defeated Murphy/ Perl 8-3 of San Diego before falling 8-3 to Dulgheru/Dickes of Pepperdine in the semi-finals. Anastasiu/ DeVera reached the quarter-finals before falling to San Diego State's Hauerlandova/Nielsen 8-4.
