Five Trojans Advance to Round of 16 in ITA West Region Championships|

Five members of the USC women's tennis team have advanced to the round of 16 in the ITA West Region Championships hosted by San Diego State University. Freshman Amanda Fink entered the tournament seeded as the No. 1 singles player and defeated Andrea Pintar of UC Santa Barbara 6-0, 6-0 on Thursday (Oct. 20). Fink next faces Silvia Gutierrez of Cal State Northridge on Friday.
Seeded No. 5 and 6, respectively, are juniors Anca Anastasiu and Dianne Matias who each beat their first opponents Mio Fukushima of UC Santa Barbara 6-2, 6-0 and Jenny Brown of San Diego 6-1,6-2 respectively. Anastasiu faces San Diego State's Eliska Krausova and Matias will take on and Sisse Nielsen of San Diego State in today's round of 16.
Senior Carine Vermeulen who is seeded 10th in the tournament, overcame Jessica Broadfoot of UC Irvine 6-4, 6-2. She goes on to play Lise Sissler of Pepperdine. In the No. 16 seed Judy DeVera routed Erin Ivey 6-2, 6-2 of Loyola Marymount and faces Cindy Treber of UNLV.
Doubles play begins at 9 a.m. on Friday (Oct. 21) with top-seeded Nelson/ Matias take on Kosakowski/Asimgil of Peperdine, No. 2 seed Vermeulen/ Fink face Baker/Fermin of Loyola Marymount and No. 8 seed Anastasiu/DeVera play Jakowlew/Rochefort of Arizona.
