ITA All-American Action Begins For Trojans

    Sept. 30, 2010

Rankings are out, tune-up tournaments are under the belts, and true ITA tennis action is here for the USC men's and women's tennis teams beginning this weekend. The ITA All-American Championships run Oct. 2-10, with the USC men heading to Tulsa, Okla., and the USC women off to Pacific Palisades, Calif., to dig into the 2010 fall season.

The Women of Troy are lined up for competition at the Riviera/ITA Women's All-American Championships. The first step is prequalifying competition at UCLA this weekend, before qualifying rounds and main draw play get going in Pacific Palisades from Oct. 5-10. USC freshman Kaitlyn Christian -- ranked as the No. 9 Freshman/Newcomer in the ITA preseason rankings -- is the No. 11 seed in the prequalifying competition this weekend. Senior Cristala Andrews also will be competing in prequalifying at UCLA. In prequalifying doubles, Alison Ramos and Valeria Pulido are teamed up for action, with teammates Danielle Lao and Lyndsay Kinstler the No. 4 seed in prequalifying doubles play. In qualifying, Lao, Pulido and Ramos are all tagged for singles, with freshman Christian and senior Maria Sanchez setting up for doubles competition in the qualifying rounds. Sanchez is slotted for main draw singles, holding strong as the No. 3 ranked singles player in the nation in the preseason ITA rankings. Ramos also could jump straight into the main draw, as the No. 19-ranked USC junior is listed as the first alternate for main draw singles.

Last year, Danielle Lao kicked off her freshman season with a run through prequalifying, qualifying and on to the main draw second round to highlight the Trojans' 2009 venture at the Riviera/ITA tournament.
