USC Women Start ITA All-American Action At Riviera Tennis Club|
Sept. 29, 2014
The USC women's tennis team sets up camp at the Riviera Tennis Club in Pacific Palisades, Calif., this week for this year's edition of the ITA/Riviera Women's All-American Championships. The Women of Troy will have two representatives in qualifying singles play, which begins tomorrow (Sept. 30). In the main draw, USC's #15 Zoë Scandalis is slated for singles action, while also holding down a spot in the doubles draw alongside teammate Giuliana Olmos. That Trojan tandem reached the doubles title match last season, and there back for more in their 2014 bid at the tournament.
Olmos and Scandalis, who are ranked #7 in the nation as a doubles team, will compete together once again in the doubles draw. Last year, the pair made it to the final of the ITA All-American, where they fell to UCLA's Robin Anderson and Jennifer Brady. This year, Olmos and Scandalis have some company in the main draw. Sophomore Katz is paired with freshman Madison Westby as the nation's #23 ranked doubles duo.
USC had two Trojans engaged in prequalifying play over the weekend in Westwood. Freshmen Gabby Smith and Meredith Xepoleas each grabbed a first-round win in singles play, but fell in the second round. Playing together in doubles as well, the freshman pair lost in their second-round match.
