    July 23, 2007

Summertime is no break for Trojan tennis standouts Lindsey Nelson and Sarah Fansler. The pair have been active in various tennis competitions around the country. A Honda Award finalist after reaching the NCAA singles final for back-to-back seasons, Nelson also has been named an ITA College All-Star - an honor that is scheduled be bestowed upon the USC senior at the upcoming US Open.

Nelson most recently competed in the Pacific Life Open and the Bank of the West Classic. At the Pacific Life Open, Nelson won her first two qualifying matches to push through to the main action. She fell in two hard-fought sets in the first round, but bounced back two weeks later at the Bank of the West at Stanford. Nelson pinned up a 6-3, 6-2 win over Turkey's Ipek Senoglu in her first qualifying match, then fell 6-0, 6-3 to Germany's Angelika Bachman. Nelson, the 2007 Pac-10 Player of the Year, will also attend a New York luncheon that will honor the ITA Collegiate All-Star Team on Aug. 25.

Fansler most recently competed in Boston, Mass., where she faced Hungary's Melinda Czink and was topped 6-3, 6-0 in the Round of 32. The USC sophomore is coming off a freshman season at Troy that saw her named the ITA Rookie of the Year.
