Giuliana Olmos & Gabby Smith Cap 2016 As ITA All-Americans|
June 9, 2016
The finalized list of 2016 ITA All-Americans was released today, with two Trojans standing tall on the doubles team. USC’s senior-sophomore combo pack of Giuliana Olmos and Gabby Smith finished out their 2016 campaign ranked No. 6 in the nation in doubles, garnering All-American status for the two Women of Troy.
Olmos and Smith captured some serious hardware together earlier this season when the senior-sophomore duo won the Oracle/Masters Doubles Championship. They would go on to climb as high as No. 4 in the national doubles rankings, and earned a place in the NCAA Doubles Championships as a 5-8 seed. The duo would compile a 19-9 record together overall while reaching the ITA National Indoor Championship quarterfinals and the Freeman Memorial title match. In dual-match action, the pair set up camp as USC’s No. 1 pair, going 10-5 in dual matches along with a 4-0 mark in Pac-12 play.
This is the first ITA All-American honor in doubles for both Olmos and Smith, who also claimed the 2014 ITA Southwest Regional Doubles Championship together last season. Olmos also snagged ITA All-American honors in singles last season as a junior, helping to wrap a well-rounded and successful career for the 2016 grad. For sophomore Smith, this is the first ITA All-American award of her young Trojan career. Smith also picked up All-Pac-12 Honorable Mention this year, while Olmos snagged her second All-Pac-12 First Team accolades. Olmos completes her storied USC playing career with a 105-44 record in singles and a 103-40 mark in doubles while also standing out as a 2014 Pac-12 Doubles Champion.
