    Amanda Fink Named ITA National Rookie Player of the Year

    USC freshman Amanda Fink received the ITA's top honor for first-year athletes, having been named the 2006 ITA National Rookie Player of the Year on the women's side of the game. She was also named the Pac-10 Freshman of the Year following USC's second-place finish in the Pac-10.

    Fink currently sits at No. 7 in the national rankings and has earned the No. 6 seed into this week's NCAA Singles Championships. Fink is 38-11 entering the NCAA Singles action, and Played primarily at the No. 2 singles slot for the Women of Troy, who fell in the semifinals of the NCAA Team Championships to close out their team season with a 21-4 record. At the Pac-10 Championships, the freshman powered her way into the title match, where she fell to champion and Pac-10 Player of the Year Zsuzsanna Fodor of Cal.

    The NCAA Women's Singles Championships begin on Wednesday (May 24) at Stanford's Taube Tennis Center. Fink is joined by fellow Women of Troy Lindsey Nelson, Dianne Matias, Luana Magnani and Anca Anastasiu in the singles competition. In doubles play, Matias and Carine Vermeulen are entered along with Trojan duo Magnani/Nelson. Doubles competition begins Thursday (May 25).
