    May 22, 2004

ATHENS, Ga. -- USC women's tennis assistant coach Howard Joffe has been named the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) West Region Assistant Coach of the Year, announced the organization on Wednesday, May 19. Joffe, along with the seven other regional winners were honored at the NCAA Championship banquet in Athens, Ga.

Joffe is now a candidate for the national award, which will be announced on May 23 in Athens.

The award marks the second straight year that USC's coaching staff has been honored in the West Region. Head coach Richard Gallien was named the region's Coach of the Year in 2003.

In his second season at Troy, Joffe helped lead the women's tennis team to an 18-7 overall record and a 7-1 mark in the Pac-10 for second place. The Women of Troy advanced to the NCAA Round of 16 and ensured themselves a top 15 ranking.

This is Joffe's first collegiate coaching honor.
